This Week’s Music Selection from Heidi Dybing

Recently on WPR Larry Meiller did a show on Guilty Pleasures.  I laughed out loud when a woman called in and said her guilty pleasure was watching the Lawrence Welk show on PBS Saturday evening!  And that is my “guilty pleasure” also!  (And dark chocolate….). I love the music, the costumes and Mr. Welk, who I think looked a little like my Grandpa Nels.  On last week’s show Tom from Bloomington sang Moon River and I had my selection for this weekend!

Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer collaborated on Moon River for the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s in 1961. ( But I think of it as Andy Williams theme song.). An article in Atlantic Monthly called it “a love song to wanderlust.”  And more trivia…Johnny Mercer’s hometown in Georgia was renamed Moon River in his honor and yes, there are huckleberries to pick on the river bank.
