This Week’s Music Selection from Heidi Dybing

In a world of sooo many beautiful songs, this is one of the best.  It is simple and soothing even though it is the theme music for one of our country’s most horrific and devastating times in history, the American Civil War.  Ken Burns documentary, The Civil War, is historical education at its finest.
Ashokan Farewell is named after the Ashokan Fiddle and Dance Camp in upstate New York.  It was composed and performed as a “goodnight and farewell lullaby” each night by its composer and camp founders, Jay Ungar and his wife Molly Mason.  And yes, it is written in the style of a Scottish lament.
And “goodnight” to you also.
