This is one of Phil’s favorite Irish songs. Si Bheag, Si Mhor is Gaelic for “big fairy, little fairy.” It was written for harp by Turlough O’Carolan about 1695. He was blinded by smallpox at age 18 but was apprenticed by a kind woman to learn the harp. She was his patron for his entire life of 47 years. A humorous side story: a doctor advised him to cease drinking, but after many days of melancholy, a second doctor told him to begin again immediately! Another of his well-known tunes is an ode to whiskey!
